How to use CullMaster
CullMaster finds the best shots in minutes, not hours. It measures sharpness, detects faces, spots closed eyes, and groups bursts into series — so you decide faster instead of scrolling through thousands of near-identical frames.
What CullMaster is
CullMaster is the culling module. It analyses every photo in a folder with a set of on-device technical helpers and presents the results so you can rate, flag, and export your keepers quickly. All analysis runs locally — sharpness, face detection, blink detection, and emotion detection.
It does not rate your photos for you. You are the judge; CullMaster only removes the tedious parts of the process.
What it is for
A single wedding or event shoot can produce thousands of frames. Going through them one by one is slow, and your eyes get tired, which makes decisions inconsistent. CullMaster is for the photographer who wants to get from a full memory card to a shortlist of keepers in one sitting.
The technical helpers
- Sharpness detection — measures sharpness, including specifically in the eye region.
- Face detection — finds faces in the frame.
- Blink detection — flags shots where eyes are closed.
- Emotion detection — classifies expressions like happy or neutral.
- Series grouping — clusters bursts using the time between shots.
- Composition score — rule-of-thirds and symmetry.
How to use it
- Open the folder you want to cull.
- Choose a profile (standard, wedding, sport, portrait, nature) or let it auto-detect the style.
- Run the analysis — it processes a photo roughly every one to two seconds.
- Walk the series; the best frames per series are highlighted.
- Rate with 1–5 stars and set colour flags with Ctrl+1/2/3.
- Auto-Select marks the best X%, then export the selection.
In the full-screen view you can compare before/after frames, toggle focus peaking, and run a slideshow.
What it brings you
- A cull that takes a couple of hours instead of a full day.
- Consistent decisions, even at the end of a long session.
- Closed-eye shots flagged before you deliver them.
- Ratings saved as XMP sidecars, readable by Lightroom.
